Montenegro. A new chapter opens in the EU accession negotiations (26.6.2018)
The EU-Montenegro Intergovernmental Conference held on June 25, 2018 agreed to open chapter 17 (Economic and Monetary Union), within Montenegro's accession negotiations to the European Union. With this chapter, there are now 31 open chapters and 3 of them provisionally closed, out of a total of 35. It must be remembered that economic relations between the EU and Montenegro are regulated by the EU-Montenegro Stabilization and Association Agreement that came into force in 2010 and which provides for complete trade liberalization, except for some exceptions in sensitive products, and certain regulatory harmonization. The negotiations for the accession of Montenegro to the EU allow the legislation of the candidate country to be progressively harmonized with that of the EU.
