Algeria. Replacement of the suspension of imports by new tariffs

Algeria

On 01/30/2019, the new tariffs, better known by the acronym DAPS (Droit additionnel provisoire de sauvegarde), came into force in Algeria, replacing the list of suspended imports?, established in January 2018. The current list of tariff duties affects 1,095 tariff items, and the most applied tariff rates are 60% and 70%, with the maximum being 200%, for hydraulic cements. It should be noted that automobiles remain subject to import restrictions (in the form of suspensions), except for vehicles imported to be assembled by the national industry. Likewise, no maximum duration period for the DAPS is indicated. On the other hand, it is also indicated that these tariffs may be reviewed or updated if the Algerian economy worsens.
